Windsong

Windsong

In Windsong I was fascinated by the idea of painting the union between human and animal. The spirit of the horse and the spirit of the female rider unite in exhilaration and movement. I wanted a strong feeling of motion, a galloping horse, but more than this I was trying to capture some essence of freedom, courage and integration with natural forces. The woman seems almost in a dream-like trance in this stark southwest landscape, yet is part of this tremendous movement and energy forward. To join with this instinctive power of Nature was what I was attempting to express.
----Amy Stein

"I was born upon the prairie, where the wind blew free and there was nothing to break the light of the sun. I was born where there were no enclosures and everything drew a free breath... I live like my fathers before me and like them I live happily."
