I experienced a strong depth of emotional feeling in painting this image, very moving, in depicting these Apache riders descending into a canyon in the high mountains of Apache-land as a rainstorm is beginning to break. There is a mystical feeling of going into the unknown. In this courageous and strong group, one female rider, poignantly, glances back for a moment before descending into the canyon. In this secluded spot among the shrubbery, this little group lived the legend in tribute to the Great Spirit.
